Quality that makes a difference!
Traceability
Traceability in industry
Röltgen develops complete systems for traceability because secure marking only works when all components work together. We supply marking machines such as embossing systems, dot peen marking machines and laser systems. We also integrate scanners, camera systems and readers so that data can be captured immediately. At the same time, we develop the appropriate software ourselves. In other words, our customers receive a solution from a single source. On request, we can connect our systems to existing ERP or MES solutions so that data is processed automatically.
Marking as the basis for traceability
Reliable traceability always begins with permanent marking, because only clearly marked components can be correctly identified later on. Our systems mark components with real text, logos, serial numbers or codes so that each product remains uniquely identifiable.
We use different processes depending on the material and area of application. Embossing tools produce particularly robust markings, while dot peen marking enables flexible applications. We use laser systems when particularly fine or contactless markings are required. This creates a marking that remains permanently legible because the process is precisely tailored to the application.

What is a DMC (Data Matrix Code)?
The Data Matrix Code, or DMC for short, stores a lot of information in a very small space because it is two-dimensional. Even damaged codes often remain readable, so important data is retained.
Typical contents of a DMC include serial numbers, production data or batch numbers. In addition, many companies store inspection statuses or production steps. The code is particularly suitable for traceability because it is robust, compact and machine-readable. In other words, the DMC combines marking and data storage in a single code.
Validation according to ISO/IEC TR 29158
After marking, we immediately check the code quality, because only readable codes enable reliable traceability. This check is called validation. A camera system automatically checks the code so that errors can be detected early on.
The ISO/IEC TR 29158 standard describes clear testing rules for directly marked codes. The system evaluates contrast, geometry and legibility so that quality can be measured objectively. Each code is then given a quality rating. Only components with a sufficient rating proceed to the next process step, as this prevents errors later on.

Practical example of traceability
In one project, our system performed marking of a component with a DMC immediately after machining because the component had to be identifiable straight away. Immediately afterwards, a camera checked the code in accordance with ISO/IEC TR 29158 to confirm its legibility.
During each subsequent processing step, the system scanned the component again so that the control system knew its current status. After the final inspection, the system automatically stored the test result in a database because all production data must be documented.
If an error occurred, the system automatically stopped the next work step so that defective parts were not further processed. Only an administrator could lift the block. After delivery, the code remains intact as it serves as a means of traceability throughout the entire product life cycle.

Complete solutions for traceability
We develop traceability systems together with our customers because every production environment has different requirements. Together, we define data structures, interfaces and process flows so that all components work together optimally.
Our services include marking machines, scanner technology, validation systems and software solutions. In addition, we integrate our systems into existing production lines so that new solutions can be introduced smoothly. This results in systems that operate stably and offer long-term security.
In other words, Röltgen combines marking, data acquisition and software into a comprehensive traceability system, enabling companies to ensure quality and control processes transparently.
