Deep markings at Röhrenwerke Kupferdreh

Röhrenwerk Kupferdreh Carl Hamm GmbH is a specialist welding company that has been producing piping components in individual parts and series production at its site in Essen for over 90 years. For approx. 25 years, the company Röltgen GmbH & Co. KG has been a reliable supplier for Carl Hamm GmbH in the field of product marking.

Many materials, pipes and connecting elements have to be marked with corresponding manufacturer and customer information. These are, for example, batch or heat numbers, DIN specifications, pressure ratings, serial numbers or other details according to customer requirements.

In the beginning, this was done very simply but time-consumingly with sets of punch numbers and punch book letters. As the workload and, with regard to traceability and documentation requirements, the texts became more and more, the first dot peen marking machine was purchased from the company Röltgen GmbH & Co. KG, and others followed in the next few years.

Due to a burglary in 2019, new dot-marking machines had to be purchased, so that the latest generation of dot-marking machines from Röltgen GmbH & Co. KG is now in use at Carl Hamm GmbH. “Thanks to the fast service and availability of the machines, two PortaDot 4000 – 130 x 30 and one PortaDot 4000 – 100 x 75 DPH with pneumatic depth marking were quickly put into operation,” says Uwe Hauffe.

The latter machine is particularly important for marking products that either have a very rough surface, e.g. hot-rolled seamless tubes or products that are provided with corrosion protection by hot-dip galvanising, wet or powder coating, but the marking must still be legible on the finished component.

Thanks to the high impact force of the PortaDot 4000 – 100 x 75 DPH, this is possible without any problems.

Deep dot peen marking thanks to pneumatics

Mobile dot peen markers with pneumatic drive produce particularly deep and permanently legible markings. The force of the compressed air enables the needle to mark even hard materials such as steel or tempered components reliably and evenly. This ensures that markings remain clearly visible even after coating, blasting or intensive use.

These devices are ideal for applications that require robust and standard-compliant markings, such as in steel construction, mechanical engineering or heavy industry. Users mark serial numbers, batches or test marks directly on the component, thus ensuring permanent identification. At the same time, the mobile design allows flexible use on site, while the pneumatic technology guarantees a constant embossing depth and high process reliability.
