The first generation CNC machines had to be replaced. Without an automatic tool changer and the very short travel of the Z-axis, economical work is no longer possible today. After careful evaluation and inspection of the machines on offer, we chose the Paso Universal 06.06.04 model from Paso Präzisionsmaschinenbau GmbH, represented by Mr Frank Helbing from our partner Rhotec Computer GmbH.
With this machine, some innovations have come to Röltgen. For example, the spindle of the machine has an HSK-E32 interface so that standardised tool holders can be used and we are no longer dependent on manufacturer-specific tool holders. We have chosen a spindle that is 6 times stronger than on the old machines. We want to achieve that we can remove larger chips and thus become faster, which is not a problem with the accuracy and rigidity of the machine. With the chosen working area of 600 x 600 x 400 mm (X/Y/Z), we are able to keep both the zero-point clamping system and the dividing head clamped on the machine table. This shortens the set-up time when changing from flat to round workpieces and vice versa. To ensure the smoothest possible running of the milling cutters, we decided to use the powRgrip tool clamping system from Rego-Fix. The tool is pressed into a tool holder with the appropriate collet chuck and thus ensures a concentricity of 3 μm. In combination with the minimum quantity lubrication, this significantly reduces the wear of the milling cutters and thus reduces downtimes.
With this combination of machine and tool clamping system, we see ourselves well equipped for the coming years in order to survive in the competition.
